In the morning we headed to the beach to play games with the local children, they were getting ready to surf so we helped out whilst they were warming up. We knew it would be the last time we would see them so we became very emotional. We also had some time to buy souvenirs to take home. Afterwards we went back to Buccaneers for lunch and we got ready for the game drive we had been looking forward too from the beginning of the trip. We interacted with cheetahs and
elephants and we then saw various animals such as rhinos, zebras, impalas, giraffes and lions having their lunch (a dead cow). It was an amazing experience which we will never forget.

After yet another wonderful breakfast accompanied by a breathtaking view of the sunrise, we listened to a short presentation by Mike at the Volunteer Africa office that made us realize how significant our donations would be. Afterwards, we headed back to the school for our last three hours of work. Mariana and Aki left a small reminder of our passing in the form of a colourful mural; others cleared up some litter and watered the new plants. We walked back to Buccaneers through the township for lunch. Punctually at 14.00, we headed to the community sports centre for the sports festival. We taught the children some of our childhood games, participated in a big football match, and Miguel ran after a pig! As prizes, we handed out FC Porto merchandise. We are now looking forward to a traditional South African dinner. Since tomorrow will be our last day, we are excited for the game drive and beach games.
Today we started to plant the seedlings in the food garden that we had prepared yesterday as well as preparing another garden and planting plants there as well. We created a compost heap with all the grass that had been cut during the
clean up of the area. We continued the mining of the earth hole which is now half way to China! We protected the seedlings that we planted with hay so that they were not damaged by mother earth. We finished the painting of the buildings and the varnishing of the tables and benches. We built a bamboo fence and afterwards had a traditional meal that was cooked for us by the ladies of the community centre as a thank you (The juice was really good). We visited two schools to deliver the donations which were greatly appreciated. After playing with the children at the schools we walked back to the lodge along the beach appreciating the sunset.

Yesterday after dinner we saw a drummer who was very interactive with the audience and called many of us up to play alongside him. After a good night’s sleep, we walked halfway to the village getting a ride from the van for the rest of the
way. We immediately started to work sanding and varnishing the tables and benches which was hard yet gratifying. Miguel created a very original yet very effective irrigation system which watered the plants. Besides this we fixed
their playing equipment which they started playing on in the afternoon. We also donated some sports equipment and were completely thrashed in the football game South Africa vs. Portugal. Whilst Portugal was being dishonoured some of the
girls taught the children games and had a good time socialising with them. We had a hard day and expect to have dinner and a good sleep for tomorrow’s work.

Day 2
This day involved mainly gardening and painting. The first is in preparation for tomorrow’s seed planting and the latter for table and wall renovations. Today we accomplished more than we expected and at this rate are sure to make a significant change to the community. We really enjoyed playing and bonding with the children it was a very fun exchange of cultures!
