Water Park Amarante Form 6, 7 & 8
On the 3rd of July form 6, 7 and 8 went on a nice
trip to the water-park in Amarante. Most of the Form 6 and 7 went but hardly any
form 8’s, just some boys.
We left school at 9:15am and when on an hour’s drive by couch to
the park. We arrived at about 10:15am on the coach everybody was singing and
chanting.
When we got there we had a brief talk about rule, put loads of
sun scream on and went to the slides. Myself and my friends started in the pool
to get used to the temperature of the water. Next we went on the black hole
which was really fun. It was really fast and it was pitch black. We worked our
way along the slides. We went on two tubes which weren’t very fast and you would
stop and have to push yourself along.
At the park there was a massive blue slide with four lanes. The
lanes were really wide and really long. If you stay lying down you can’t breathe
because of the rushing water. Most people slid down on their knees. On that
slide you would spin around and it was nearly impossible to land in the water
facing forwards. Most of the time you would land head first in the pool
beneath.
There was a slide that was similar but it had six lanes and was
much lower down. It was colourful and very fun. You went really fast and you
could hold hands and go down it.
We had lunch at about 1 o’clock. Everyone repeated the slides a
few more times before getting an ice-cream.
Everyone got changed and we all went down to the bus. We left
the park at about 3:30pm and arrived back at school at
4:30pm.
Everyone
had such a great time. It was an unforgettable trip.

Summer Camp
Duke Of Edinburgh
This year participants in the duke of Edinburgh expedition were fantastic, even though certain groups were managed to get lost and ended up walking 11 km in 13 and a half hours. Their characters shone through and they showed just how strong they really are.
I’m very proud of them.

Romeo & Juliet
Message from Miss Morgan
A huge congratulations to all those who took part in The Secondary School Production of Romeo and Juliet earlier this month in the Centro Paroquial Do Nevogilde.
Some thirty plus members of cast (largely from KS3) did Shakespeare and the school proud when they took to the boards and performed to members of the school and wider community. With excellent performances of extremely challenging roles, the cast excelled all expectations. Thanks also to our staff members who gave up their time to perform cameo roles.
It is hoped that this Production will be the start of many at the Community theatre and that we have set the bar high for the standard of our future productions.
Thanks also to parents and members of the community for your support. We intend to broadcast the video on youtube shortly and we will send a link to parents of the cast as an invite to view.
Best regards and thank you,

OPOMUN 2013
After intense preparation, Form 10 and 11 students attended the OPOMUN taking place in CLIP from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th. Throughout the days, we discussed with other delegates to make the best clauses to be submitted. On Friday we were divided into two committees (ECOSOC and Human Rights Committee) with different issues which were very interesting to discuss. All of us, except the Security Council delegates, attended the General Assembly, on Saturday, to debate issues such as "reforming the UN". Although this time the issues were difficult to solve, some clauses were passed successfully.
These 3 days were not only very productive as we passed several clauses and amendments but also very amusing because we met lots of new people from different places.
A special thanks to Miss Morgan, Mr Hooley and Mr Kelly for accompanying us in this trip, helping us research our countries and preparing this conference

Basketball is our passion
This year has been competitive. We play for U.A.A.Aroso, in the iniciadas team. Aroso is situated in Aldoar.
We train 3 times per week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and on the weekend we play against other teams.
As a team we reached torneio interssoçiações. Our effort helped us to stay in second place, in division 1. Division 1 incorporates the best teams. We won most of the games, unfortunately we lost the 2 games against Valongo “A”. Now we realized our errors and we hope to win and improve against the Division “B” teams.
The best result was against ATC (Aroso- 72 ; ATC- 17), we went to the game not thinking we would win but with a positive attitude and team spirit. The Valongo game was not the best but not the worst, we know we could have done better, we should have thought that about improving and really trying after, the interval but it didn’t happen. Our coach wasn’t satisfied, but she knew it wasn’t easy, she thought that there was room for improvement.
In the Easter holidays we are going to attend a one week basketball camp, were we practice and improve our skills. Our team is looking forward to win and show that we can do better.

Form 7- Eco-day
On the 26th of February, Form 7 went to the Yeatman Hotel which is an ecological hotel. They told us the various things they do to make the hotel ecological, for example using ecological lights, reusing towels when not used, having light sensors, recycling everything, having solar panels and many more things. This trip made us realise that if a 5 star hotel can help the earth by being ecological ,we are also capable of also recycling. In the afternoon, we made posters, leaflets and we had various activities in which we participated that helped us learn that even though we can only recycle a bit it will actually make a difference and help the earth.

Football Club
After school football club is awesome, many boys are going, it´s just a lot of fun! The boys are generally from form 6 to
form 7 and it´s brilliant to play there, there´s a lot of fun. Our coach is Mr. Weston who teaches us to have good discipline and to have manners. We always start with an exercise with the ball, then running and finally we play a game.
Dribbling, kicking, taking the ball, scoring... is just fabulous, many of us like to score. As a team we work together to reach the goal and win the game.

Form 10 & 12 Volunteer Day
As part of volunteer day, we went to APPACDM (Associação Portuguesa de Pais e Amigos do Cidadão Deficiente Mental). Firstly, one of the directors talked to us about the association and about their mission statement and objectives. We were then given a tour around the association, we visited classrooms with people who were extreme cases and others who weren't as handicapped. Most people in the classrooms were participating in arts and crafts and some even talked to us. At the end, the director explained to us how the association is financed. Some of us asked if we could actually help with the handicapped.

Form 7 Volunteer Day went to the Animal Shelter
On the 5th of December it was International Volunteer day. Form 7 went to Vinculm an animal shelter. We sat on the mats and they were explaining to us what the association did to the dogs. They told us how they trained dogs and the therapy they used.
There are various ways we could help. We could help either by doing charity fundraising;this money would go to buy food, improve the facilities and buy land. We could also help by actually helping cleaning the dogs, giving them food etc.
This trip made us realise what actually Volunteer day is and we should oftenly do these trips so that we can help others who are in need when we can actually help.
